Friday March Home Weather Calendar Jobs Cars Homes Classifieds Shopping Dating SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT LIFE & STYLE BUSINESS OBITS OPINION PHOTOS VIDEOS NATION WORLD TRAVEL Argent Mortgage lays off hundreds in White Plains By THE JOURNAL NEWS Hundreds of employees at Argent Mortgage Co offices in White Plains lost their jobs yesterday as its parent company consolidated operations amid turmoil in the subprime mortgage industry Workers said they got the news around noon via e mail at Argent's two offices at Westchester Ave and S Broadway Managers asked them to leave shortly afterward Some employees said that they had seen extra security guards at their building and that trucks were on the scene apparently to move files and equipment Argent's parent company ACC Capital Holdings in Orange Calif said in a statement that it was cutting staff at all its operations across the country Argent's White Plains offices processed loans through independent mortgage brokers; their operations are being moved to existing offices in Illinois This is a very challenging non prime market the statement said Only companies with the ability to control costs and improve loan quality are going to be successful ACC also operates Ameriquest Mortgage Co and AMC Mortgage
